Saleem MANDVIWALA

Vice Chairman of the Senate of Pakistan

Saleem MANDVIWALA is from a large business family in Karachi, Pakistan. He served as Chairman of the Board of Investment (BOI) from 2008 to 2013, as Minister of State for the Government of Pakistan from 2012 to 2013, and as Minister of the Federal Government of Pakistan in 2013. He served as a Senator from 2012 and was elected Vice Chairman of the Senate of Pakistan in 2018. He once served as Minister of Finance of Pakistan, Chairman of the Lasbela Chamber of Commerce, and Member of the Management Committee, FPCCI.

During his tenure of office, MANDVIWALA was committed to improving the investment environment in Pakistan and establishing economic and financial relations with foreign countries, making Pakistan an ideal location for FDI and making great contributions to the international financing of the railway and energy projects in Pakistan. In cooperation with the U.S. Agency for International Development, he introduced international benchmark investment incentives into Pakistan. He resumed bilateral relations between Pakistan and Russia and negotiated with the SCO.

MANDVIWALA has held numerous international conferences and events in Pakistan and abroad, such as "Trade Investment Promotion Activities (Italy)", the "10th World Knowledge Forum (Korea)", the "3rd Kuwait Joint Ministerial Committee Meeting (Kuwait)", "Trade Campaign (the U.K.)", "Investment Seminar (Malaysia)", "Overseas Investment Expo (Korea)", "St. Petersburg International Economic Forum" (Russia). The commercial forums are richly themed and enhance the commercial cooperation among the countries.

MANDVIWALA has actively promoted CPEC construction and organized Parliament's multi-party discussions on the BRI. Since 2015, he has kept a close cooperation relationship with RDI. He participated in the Karamay Forum in Xinjiang, promoted the cooperation between Pakistan's Balochistan Province and Karachi and China's cities, and actively supported the construction of Gwadar Port, making significant contributions to CPEC construction, especially in projects relative to people-to-people bonds.
