Institute of Strategic Studies Islamabad (hereinafter referred to as “ISSI”) established in 1973, is an autonomous, non-profit research organization. It is devoted to providing an in-depth understanding and objective analysis of regional and global strategic issues affecting international peace and security. The Institute also promotes a broad-based and informed public understanding of vital issues affecting Pakistan and the international community as a whole, and is one of the pioneers in this field.

The purpose of ISSI is to initiate study, discussions, research and analyses based on open and publicized sources of information and intelligence. It provides a forum for scholars and experts for study, research and analysis of vital strategic issues and the factors of peace, security and various elements of national power influencing Pakistan and international community, from its historical as well as future perspective. ISSI also holds regular seminars to organize experts and scholars in relevant fields to express their opinions on strategic issues. It establishes and maintains cooperative relations with similar institutions in other parts of the world and represents Pakistan at international strategic conferences. So far ISSI has signed more than 30 MoUs with various research organizations around the world.

From June 20th to 21st, 2019, CPEC Forum 2019 was held ceremoniously in Islamabad, jointly organized by RDI, ISSI and Zamir Foundation. The constructive high-end dialogue and the subsequent practical project docking mark the internationalization of the pragmatic effect of “RDI Model”, which is a successful example of effective bilateral cooperation between RDI and ISSI.

In the future, RDI and ISSI will further efforts in promoting the CPEC construction, deepen cooperation in public health, economic development and digital transformation between China and Pakistan, and provide think tank support for economic and trade exchanges and industrial connection, thus forming the best practice of the B&R.
